Ron Block

Ron Block

Winner of 147 Grammys (or so), Ron Block is the banjo-ninja portion of Alison Kraus and Union Station. When he's not laying down a bluegrass-style martial-arts whoopin' on audiences around the world, he's taking care of his donkey named "Trash" and keeping himself busy by being one of the most well-read and thoughtful people we know.

As a writer, he’s interviewed over 1,000 musicians for multiple print and web-based publications. Along with his wife and son, he lives in Nashville, Tennessee.

Lanier Ivester

Lanier Ivester

Lanier Ivester is a “Southern Lady” in the best and most classical sense and a gifted writer in the most articulate and literal sense. She hand-binds books and lives on a farm with peacocks, bees, sheep, and the governor of Ohio’s leg. She and her husband have been known to spend far too much of their vacation time aboard sailing vessels and on quaint islands off the Georgia coast. She loves old books and sells them from her website, LaniersBooks.com, and she’s currently putting the final touches on her first novel, as well as studying literature at Oxford. In her free time, she tries to get some sleep.

Jonny Jimison

Jonny Jimison

Jonny Jimison is a talented cartoonist and graphic novelist. In addition to a long history of web-based cartoons, he's recently published the first volume of his Dragon Lord Saga series of graphic novels, Martin & Marco. He's now hard at work on the second book in the series, The River Fox. Jonny lives and works in Jacksonville, Florida.

Heidi Johnston

Heidi Johnston

Heidi Johnston is the author of Life in the Big Story and is currently the Rabbit Room’s only Irish contributor. She studied law at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland and now, amongst other things, teaches a class on “Poetic and Wisdom Literature of the Old Testament” at Belfast Bible College. Heidi is passionate about getting people to engage with the Bible and has a fascination with the book of Deuteronomy. Heidi and her husband Glenn live near Belfast in Northern Ireland with their two adventurous daughters.

Thomas McKenzie

Thomas McKenzie

Thomas McKenzie is the author of The Anglican Way, a book he describes as a traveler’s guide to the Anglican tradition, as well as The Harpooner, an Advent reader featuring harpoons—how awesome is that? He graduated from the University of Texas and attended seminary at the Trinity School for Ministry in Ambridge, Pennsylvania. He was ordained as an Anglican priest in 1998 and planted the Church of the Redeemer in Nashville in 2004, where he is still the pastor. He also keeps samurai swords in his office, and wears a skull ring. We love this priest.

Douglas Kaine McKelvey

Douglas Kaine McKelvey

The remote descendant of Scottish horse-thieving ancestors, Douglas McKelvey has already bested the dubious achievements of his predecessors by authoring five published books, writing and directing a passel of video projects, and penning lyrics for more than 250 songs recorded by a variety of artists including Switchfoot, Kenny Rogers, and Jason Gray. Under the alias “DKM,” McKelvey co-creates the ongoing “Subjects With Objects” collaborative gallery project. He currently serves as president of International Conspiracy & Trade Co. (This is not a joke, but probably should be…), and is hard at work completing the manuscript for a YA sci-fi/fantasy novel and developing with Ruckus Films a feature comedy-drama based on the shenanigans of notorious car thief Rabbit Veach. Douglas dwells in the long shadows south of Nashville with his Norwegianish wife and their three half-Norwegianish daughters who seem (strangely) to grow older with each passing year.

David Mitchel

David Mitchel

David Mitchel is a small-town lawyer who has represented clients in a broad spectrum of causes, ranging from business transactions to property disputes to the defense of criminal charges to federal habeas corpus and Civil Rights actions. His passion for literature and story, which he caught first from Tolkien, informs all of this work—which requires patient, careful adjudication of competing stories and creativity to help clients and courts write the rest of the story justly and wisely. David was born and raised near Baltimore, Maryland, went to law school at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, and now lives in central Virginia. When he’s not practicing his profession, David is usually on stage, or playing a stringed instrument, or reading, or writing.

Eric Peters

Eric Peters

Eric Peters, affectionately called "Pappy" by those who love him, is the grand old curmudgeon of the Rabbit Room. But his small stature and often quiet presence belie a giant talent. He's a songwriter of the first order, and a catalogue of great records bears witness to it. His last album, Birds of Relocation, blew minds and found its way onto “year’s best” lists all over the country. When he's not painting, trolling bookstores, or dabbling in photography, he's touring the country in support of his latest record, Far Side of the Sea.

Andrew Peterson

Andrew Peterson

As a singer-songwriter and recording artist, Andrew has released ten records over the past fifteen years. His music has earned him a reputation for writing songs that connect with his listeners in ways equally powerful, poetic, and intimate.

A natural-born storyteller, Andrew has also followed his gifts into the realm of publishing. His books include the four volumes of the award-winning Wingfeather Saga.

Andrew, his wife, Jamie, and their three children live just outside of Nashville, Tennessee, on a wooded hill in a little house they call The Warren. Andrew is the founder of the Rabbit Room community and the bearer of the honorable title of “The Proprietor.”

A. S. "Pete" Peterson

Among the many strange things he’s been in life are the following: U.S Marine air traffic controller, television editor, art teacher and boatwright at the Florida Sheriffs Boys Ranch, and progenitor of the mysterious Budge-Nuzzard. He lives in Nashville with his wife, Jennifer, where he's the Executive Director of the Rabbit Room and Managing Editor of Rabbit Room Press.

Their journey through life together has taken them from Indiana (Taylor University) to Nashville (The Art House) to St. Louis (Covenant Theological Seminary) to Kansas City (Oak Hills Presbyterian Church) and back to Nashville again.

Rebecca Reynolds teaches Classical Rhetoric and Philosophy of Faith in eastern Tennessee, and is a contributor to the Story Warren website. She’s the author and illustrator of the pediatric series From the Medical Files of Dr. Phineas C. Bones and collaborated with Ron Block as the lyricist for his critcally-acclaimed album, Walking Song. She lives in Kingsport, Tennessee, with her husband and three children.

Chris Slaten

Chris Slaten

Chris is the mastermind behind Son of Laughter. His debut EP, The Mantis and the Moon, took just about everyone by surprise. He’s currently touring the country and raising money to record a full length record—which is cause indeed for rejoicing. Chris lives with his wife and children in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he teaches high school literature and loves it.

Jonathan Rogers

His other books include the Wilderking Trilogy–The Bark of the Bog Owl, The Secret of the Swamp King, and The Way of the Wilderking–as well as The World According to Narnia and a biography of Saint Patrick. He has spent most of his adult life in Nashville, Tennessee, where he and his wife Lou Alice are raising a houseful of robustious children.

Jamin Still

Jamin Still

Jamin has always enjoyed illustrations and images related to stories. As a child, he drew and painted and continued to pursue art through high school and college. He attended Wichita State University where he earned a degree in art history, painting, and English literature. Since then he has focused on developing illustration and story-related imagery. His goal is to bring the viewer to a place of wonder and possibility. His new picture book, Ellen and the Winter Wolves, is a beautiful witness to his many talents.

Joe Sutphin

Joe Sutphin

Joe is an illustrator of children’s literature including Andrew Peterson’s The Warden and the Wolf King and the middle-grade series Dr. Critchlore’s School for Minions by Sheila Grau. He’s also illustrated several early readers’ picture books as well as a John Carter of Mars anthology and is currently illustrating a children’s novel by James Patterson. Joe is a contributor to the Rabbit Room as well as Story Warren, and has a young readers’ novel in the works. He and his wife Gina are the parents of two fine young adults and live with their cat, Missy, and fish, Jerk Fish, in a converted red barn in central Ohio.

Her first novel, The Rise and Fall of Mount Majestic, was a nominee for Tennessee’s 2012 Volunteer State Book Award. She’s currently working on several delightful new books such as Henry and the Chalk Dragon (to be released in 2017 from Rabbit Room Press).
